The SunCoast Reef Rovers (Venice Dive Club) annual Venice Fishing Pier underwater cleanup is scheduled for Saturday morning, July 15, 2017 (weather permitting). Please spread the word.
All divers are welcome to attend and partake as long as they are certified SCUBA divers and comfortable diving in low-visibility water with debris and sharp objects in the area.
If interested in participating, please email [email protected] by Wednesday, July 12 if you plan to dive or be a topside helper.
Divers should remember to bring their dive flags with some weights so they can be placed in the water around the pier, as requested by the Venice Police Department.
Current plan:
Divers enter the water at 10 a.m., exit the water sometime on or before 11:30 a.m.
Divers should arrive between 9 and 9:30 a.m. to allow plenty of time to get ready and be able to enter the water at 10 a.m. There will be a pre-dive briefing at 9:50 a.m. to cover the dive plan. The pre-dive briefing will be held at the water’s edge on the south side of the Pier — look for the SCRR banner.
The Venice Police Department will be on site to assist with the cleanup.
Sharky’s on the Pier will provide, at a reduced price, lunch for everyone involved in the cleanup. Lunch will cost $7 per person and it includes a sandwich (several choices) plus a non-alcoholic drink (soda, tea, etc.) and the tip for the wait staff. Alcoholic beverages are not covered and when ordered will need to be paid for separately by the participants. Please let Ken Lackmann know if you plan to stay for lunch so he can compile a list and provide it to Sharky’s restaurant so they are better prepared for the group size.
No supplies/gear/tanks of any kind will be provided for divers. Divers need to bring their own dive gear, tanks, cutting supplies, underwater trash bags, etc.
If interested, please contact Ken Lackmann at [email protected]. He can also be reached at his Palmetto office for more information at 941-729-6804.
