An Orange County Sheriff’s deputy who was killed in a motorcycle crash during a search for a murder suspect had ties to the Suncoast. Deputy First Class Norman Lewis was helping set up a perimeter Monday morning in the manhunt for Markeith Loyd, wanted for killing an Orlando police sergeant a couple of hours earlier. The crash occurred when a van illegally pulled in front of Lewis’ motorcycle. Lewis graduated from Charlotte High School in the early 2000’s. His family reportedly still lives on the Suncoast. Lewis was an 11-year veteran of the sheriff’s office and was known as “a gentle giant.” A vigil was being held for both Lewis and Master Sergeant Debra Clayton in Orlando Tuesday evening.
