Back in October, deputies at the Charlotte County Jail responded to an incident involving an inmate. In the course of resolving the situation, photos were taken of the inmate, one of which eventually turned up in social media. The photo was turned into a meme and posted to Instagram. The Sun reports that an internal investigation found the deputies’ conduct–quote–“unbecoming and (their) actions reflected poorly on the Sheriff’s Office and its core values, as well as that of a Corrections Officer.” Three deputies have been disciplined. Deputy Christine Schmidt was suspended for 48 hours without pay and given six months of disciplinary probation. She also has to give a presentation to command staff on the use of social media. Deputies Ryan Buckley and Michael Wiles were both suspended 24 hours without pay and both were put on a 24-hour suspension without pay and given six months of disciplinary probation.
