Democrats in Sarasota and Charlotte Counties are scrambling to find a new candidate for the 17th Congressional seat after April Freeman suddenly passed away over the weekend.
JoAnne Devries, chair of the Sarasota County Democratic Party, told ABC-7 they’ve found a number of people interested in running- but they have to choose that candidate by the end of the week. Whomever it ends up being will be running against Republican Greg Stuebe.
As for the ballots come November, they’ve already been printed, so Freeman’s name will remain. An insert will be included to let voters know a vote for Freeman will actually be for the replacement candidate.
