A tragic fire at Trail Apartments in Punta Gorda, Charlotte County has left two people dead and five injured. The fire was reported at around 7 a.m. on Tuesday and was quickly attended by fire crews who were able to bring it under control within 10 minutes. Three of the injured, including a child, were hospitalized with serious burns, while two received minor injuries. The whole building suffered heavy damage, although the flames were contained to a single apartment. The state fire marshal has joined the investigation, which is being conducted by Charlotte County Fire and Charlott County Sheriff’s Office. Todd Dunn of Charlotte County Fire has urged people to ensure they have working smoke detectors in their homes.
