ENGLEWOOD — What could be the result of red tide is expanding in the local waters, decaying fish surfaced onto Englewood Beach on Monday.

The fish have been analyzed as being in an advanced stage of decay which is suspected to be related to red tide bloom.

Charlotte County crews hit the beaches to remove them.

The National Weather Service has released a beach hazards statement for Charlotte and Lee counties. People can experience respiratory problems when exposed to red tide. The alert is in effect through today. Symptoms range from respiratory irritation as well as sneezing, coughing and teary eyes. The federal agency warned that irritation from red tide can vary from beach to beach and depending on the time of day.
