Nearly 2,000 redfish will be released in waters off the Suncoast this morning.

It’s part of a larger effort to replenish the population, which was decimated by the red tide outbreak.

The Coastal Conservation Association of Florida has partnered with Duke Energy to produce a new generation of redfish in their Mariculture Center at Crystal River.

The group will be releasing 16,000 redfish in all off the coast of eight counties, including both Sarasota and Charlotte. Each county will get 2,000 juvenile Redfish and 25 adult Redfish to release into the Gulf.
