City of Venice to Offer Free Self-Service Sandbag Pickup July 19
VENICE, Fla. — The City of Venice will host its next Self-Service Sandbag Summer Operation on Saturday, July 19, offering residents a chance to prepare for potential summer storms. Free sand and empty bags will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 252 Seaboard Ave. (see attached map). Sandbags are limited to 10 per vehicle, and distribution is on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
Those unable to attend on July 19 will have another opportunity on Sunday, August 10, at the same location and time.
This initiative coincides with a Sarasota County effort taking place on the same dates and hours at three additional sites:
South County Fleet, 4571 SR 776 / Englewood Rd., South Venice
Ed Smith Stadium, 2700 12th St., Sarasota
Twin Lakes Park, 6700 Clark Rd., Sarasota
Residents are responsible for filling and loading their own sandbags and are encouraged to bring shovels and gloves. A limited number of shovels will be available on site for those without their own.
City and county officials urge residents to take advantage of these monthly sandbag events to help protect their homes from flooding and storm-related impacts. These proactive opportunities supplement regular sandbag operations that are activated closer to storm threats.
