Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell Takes Leadership Role with Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranches
Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell is stepping into a new leadership role as chair of the Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranches, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting at-risk children. Prummell has been involved with the organization for 11 years, helping further its mission of fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and youth.
Founded in 1957, the Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranches has provided assistance to more than 183,000 children through residential programs for those facing family challenges and summer camps designed to connect kids with law enforcement officers.
Prummell also expressed concern over a rise in juvenile-related incidents, noting that youth crimes appear to be increasing in both frequency and severity.
To combat this, Charlotte County is launching a new Delinquency Prevention Program at the end of the month. Unlike traditional intervention programs, this initiative involves entire families, addressing underlying issues collectively.
Stetson University will track the program’s effectiveness, with the possibility of seeking legislative funding for statewide expansion. The Department of Juvenile Justice has already allocated $300,000 to support its launch.
To sustain the Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranches, the organization relies on donations and fundraising events. Upcoming fundraisers include the Fantasy Fishing Tournament on April 12 and the Dive Team Challenge at Babcock Ranch on April 4-5.
