An extension of Charlotte County’s one percent sales tax is likely to appear on the 2020 ballot. A recent study done by the University of Florida’s research center asked Charlotte County voters their opinion on extending the sales tax option. Nearly two-thirds- 65 percent- said they’d vote to extend the tax. That extra one percent goes towards various county projects- everything from parks and recreation to road maintenance and public safety. Of the people surveyed, a whopping 72 percent said they’d like to see the money go to beach renourishment projects and improving water quality in Charlotte Harbor.
