A Charlotte County inmate has injuries after jumping from his housing unit at the jail.

The sheriff’s office continues investigating how this happened this morning.

It has identified the inmate as 43-year-old Billy Ray Wilson of Port Charlotte.

Authorities arrested him last November for dealing in stolen property and possessing a weapon as a felon.

The sheriff’s office says Wilson landed on his feet when he jumped, and he started running before officers grabbed him.

He went to a hospital for treatment of injuries to his lower extremities and back.
