A Charlotte County corrections officer and North Port resident was arrested over the weekend on DUI charges. James Bates, who is a sergeant at Charlotte Correctional Institution, was pulled over after running a stop sign Saturday night. He told officers he had been watching a hockey game at a friend’s house- a check of his blood alcohol showed he was over the legal limit. He bonded out later that night. No word on if the arrest will immediately affect his employment status.
