Commissioners in Charlotte Co. last week put on hold a decision to recommend a location for a new fire station on Don Pedro Island.

A number of residents of the island spoke out against building at 61 Gasparilla Way, instead pushing for a larger parcel of land.

Candyce Cohen, a member of the Barrier Islands Fire Advisory Board, told The Sun a larger site would allow for a helipad, and provide a location for a future sewage treatment site.

The paper reports the board ended up voting unanimously to postpone a decision on a new site and to request a new assessment.
