The Florida Sheriffs Association has announced the 2017 Corrections Officer of the Year and he comes from the suncoast. The award goes to Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Deputy First Class Bobby Beverly. The award, presented each year at the Sheriff’s Association Winter Conference by the association and Star & Shield Insurance, is given to one corrections officer who has demonstrated outstanding service in the line of duty. Beverly is credited with saving the life of a teenage accident victim. He was off-duty last October when the Zoe Acevedo’s mother banged on his door. Courtney Acevedo says that Beverly helped get Zoe on the floor and keep her conscious all while calling 911. While waiting for EMS, Beverly stayed with Zoe to make sure she stayed awake. Beverly then looked after Acevedo’s three young children while she and Zoe were at the hospital.
