Most outdoor burning needs to be put on hold in Charlotte County after an ordinance was passed on Tuesday. The ban will include recreational fires, the use of fireworks and sparklers and the burning of yard waste. Residents can still use outdoor cooking grills and burn permits are still being issued by the Florida Forest Service. The drought is the driving force behind the decision with the area’s Fire Danger Index rating reaching four out of five multiple times recently. The ban will remain in effect until the threat of wildfires diminishes.
