Bradenton police responded to a shooting call at 7:59 a.m. Thursday in the 1500 block of 19th Street West and found two people dead inside a home. Investigators identified them as 60-year-old Phillip Edmond McClure and 74-year-old Brenda Gail McClure, an estranged married couple. Detectives believe Phillip waited for other household members to leave that morning before entering the home, shooting Brenda, and taking his own life. Police have not released a possible motive, and the investigation remains active.
Residents on the street described it as a typically peaceful area and said the heavy police presence was jarring. Neighbor Kimberly McDonough told reporters she knew the couple and remembered Brenda as incredibly sweet and kind. Another resident alleged there had been concerns about abusive behavior in the weeks before the shooting, an allegation the Bradenton Police Department has not confirmed.
