A bicyclist was killed early Sunday morning after being struck by a car in Sarasota.
It happened around 1am at U.S. 41 and Waldemere Street. Police say the bicyclist was struck while in the northbound lanes of South Tamiami Trail. The intersection remained closed for four hours. The vehicle was located several blocks north of the scene. Two people inside suffered non-life threatening injuries. The name of the bicyclist has not been released, pending notification of next of kin. Police also did not release the names of those in the vehicle.The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed yet.
