The Florida Department of Health has issued a beach advisory for Port Charlotte Beach West and Boca Grande.
Water quality tests done on Wednesday indicated bacteria contamination. The beach remains open, but going in the water is discouraged.
Department officials say the area should be considered a potential health risk to bathing in public.
