A Buckeye, Arizona woman took the stand Wednesday and told a judge that her fiancé had nothing to do with the October 16th attack inside her own home. Police tell a different story: that 23-year-old Zarian Dyer arranged the whole thing over Reddit with 20-year-old Adrian Ayala, down to the timing, the parking, and the way in. Ayala is accused of forcing his way inside, attacking the woman, and kicking her 17-month-old daughter.
The woman testified through tears that Ayala first asked to use her restroom, then pushed his way in. She called the accusations against her partner false and fabricated. Meanwhile, Ayala was arrested the day after the attack, has pleaded not guilty, and is out of custody. Dyer remains jailed on a $500,000 bond. Since the arrests, the victim says she has lost income and now faces eviction.
The case raises uncomfortable questions, about how violent plans get coordinated online, about release conditions for people accused of harming a family, and about what happens when a victim’s account collides with police evidence. A judge will eventually have to weigh it all. What would you want the court to consider here?
