Two Anna Maria City employees have lost their jobs after removing two planks from the city pier while on the job and giving them to the families who sponsored them. Now, people in the community of Anna Maria are calling for the mayor to reconsider and give the two men their jobs back. Hurricane Irma destroyed the Anna Maria City Pier and there was concern from the community as to whether or not the sponsored planks would return to the sponsored families. People around the community didn’t want the city to throw them away. The city took the plank back from at least one of the families. The men who took the planks admitted to their actions.
