Sarasota’s weekend forecast just got a lot more interesting, and it has nothing to do with the beach. American Vintage Markets sets up inside Robarts Arena at the Sarasota Fairgrounds on Ringling Boulevard this Friday and Saturday, October 23 and 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Dozens of vendors will fill the hall with vintage-inspired home decor, up-cycled goods, collectibles, industrial and architectural salvage, jewelry, clothing, furniture, antiques, artisan food, handmade pieces, glassware, china, and textiles.
The organizers describe their vendors as pickers, makers, collectors, creators, and artisans, and that blend is what separates a market like this from a standard flea. Show director Lynn Wettach and vendor Lori Gardner have been talking up the event ahead of opening day. Admission is a two-day general pass for $10, groups of two or more pay $8 each, and children under 16 get in free. Parking at the fairgrounds is free, and tickets are valid both days. Attendees who take a photo with a vendor can use it to be readmitted on Saturday.
For snowbirds settling in for the season or locals looking to refresh a room without a big-box price tag, an indoor market is a comfortable way to spend a morning. October weather on the Suncoast can turn a beach day into a washout, and red tide doesn’t check the calendar. A covered arena full of salvage and glassware sidesteps all of that.
