A 54-year-old sanitation worker in Prichard, Alabama, has died more than two months after a road rage confrontation that turned into a shootout while he was driving a garbage truck. Clifton Eugene DuBose Jr. was hospitalized after the August 4th incident on Jarrett Road, where he and another driver stopped their vehicles and both sides drew weapons. A woman in the other car shot DuBose in the abdomen, and he fired into her vehicle before both parties drove off.
Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch said children were inside the other vehicle during the shooting. DuBose was identified as the aggressor and charged with five counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle. Authorities also said he had an active domestic violence warrant and was driving on a suspended or revoked license at the time, raising questions about how he was operating a city vehicle in the first place.
The sheriff’s message was blunt: don’t get into a confrontation, because it’s never going to end well. For those of us here on the Suncoast, where a quick trip down Tamiami Trail or US-41 can test anyone’s patience, this story is a hard reminder that a moment of anger behind the wheel can change everything. What do you do to keep your cool when another driver sets you off?
