More than 5,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled into a closed pond yesterday in the 7200 block of Bounty Drive in the Sarasota Gulf Gate neighborhood.

The spill happened just before noon on the southwest corner of the station.

According to a report issued by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, none of the station’s three pumps were operational, causing the discharge.

The cause of the pump failure is unknown.
