The city of Punta Gorda will be spending more than four-million dollars for drainage upgrades in the Boca Grande Boulevard area. The expenditure was unanimously approved by the city commissioners, who might have been thinking about students who travel to and from Charlotte High School and Sallie Jones Elementary. According to the Englewood Sun, the project will include the replacement and upgrades of culverts and swales, and a new drainage trunk line to an area east of Tamiami Trail bordered by Taylor and Cooper streets, and the Seminole Railway. Punta Gorda Mayor Rachel Keesling said–quote–“This is not an easy fix, but it has to be done.” It’s not known when construction will begin.
