Three suspects are behind bars after a coordinated sting operation early Friday morning in Hillsborough County. Tampa police and deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office tracked the crew overnight, watching as they targeted a McDonald’s before breaking into Taiwan Express in Gibsonton. That’s when officers moved in to make the arrest.
The operation took a tense turn when one suspect attempted to flee through a rear exit and physically resisted arrest. During the struggle, an officer’s gun accidentally discharged. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the suspects, officers, deputies, or any bystanders. A close call that could have ended very differently.
The investigation remains active, and authorities say more information is expected later today. As details emerge about the suspects and their connection to a string of commercial burglaries in the Tampa area, we’ll keep you updated. In the meantime, what are your thoughts on police conducting more overnight sting operations like this in our community? Let us know in the comments.
