More than a dozen North Port parks are going to the dogs. The City Commission this week designated 16 parks as dog-friendly. But that doesn’t mean Fido and Fluffy can run around by themselves. Pets must be on a leash at all times- they are not allowed near playgrounds, courts, batting cages, or sports fields. Dogs must also be current on vaccinations and be wearing current tags. Pet owners must also pick up after their pet or else face fines. The only exception is North Port’s Canine Club, which is designated as a dog park and is leash free.
