The Sarasota County school board this week officially hired fourteen officers and two sergeants last night as part of their new police force.
The 14 officers hired Tuesday will be ready to be in schools for the first day of school Monday.
In all, 25 school resource officers have been hired, but only those 14 will be in classrooms for the first day.
ABC-7 reports the remaining 11 officers and one sergeant that aren’t starting Monday are finishing up training and going through what’s called the Crossover Academy. If someone has a law enforcement certification in one state, he or she still has to go through a class to be certified in Florida.
