A 12-year-old suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car in Charlotte County Thursday night. Troopers say Spencer Becton of Port Charlotte was riding his bike on Appleton Boulevard in Port Charlotte when he tried to cross the eastbound lanes, directly in front of a vehicle. The driver, a 37-year-old man from Port Charlotte, veered to the left to attempt to avoid the collision, but Becton was hit. The crash remains under investigation and troopers say charges are pending.
