In a twist that could rival a summer blockbuster, a Cape Coral man found himself in a tight spot after allegedly making off with two high-end marine GPS units. Luis Rochel Aguilar Sanchez, 29, attempted to pull off his heist in the wee hours of the morning, but the authorities were hot on his trail. After a deputy spotted his suspicious vehicle driving with its lights off, Sanchez quickly hit the brakes, leading to a series of events that would land him behind bars.

As deputies conducted a search of his vehicle, they stumbled upon the stolen Garmin GPS units alongside tools, a face mask, and latex gloves—definitely not the kind of accessories one wants for a late-night joyride. A search of the nearby boat retail business confirmed their suspicions, as deputies discovered that the identical GPS units had disappeared, leaving behind the distinct shoeprint matching Sanchez’s footwear.

Despite his best attempts to evade the police, Sanchez was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including burglary and grand theft. After his night of escapades, he was released on bond. Perhaps next time, he’ll stick to fishing instead of thieving. After all, it’s always better to reel in the catch of the day rather than end up in handcuffs!
