Free Tax Preparation Services Available for Households Earning Less Than $85,000

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, organized by the United Way of South Sarasota County, is offering free federal income tax preparation for individuals and families with a yearly household income of up to $85,000. This service, available at multiple locations, ensures taxpayers receive professional assistance from IRS-certified preparers at no cost.

Important Information

VITA services are available by appointment only and will run from February 1 through April 15, 2025. To avoid rescheduling, taxpayers must bring the following documents:

  • A valid government-issued photo ID
  • Social Security cards or ITIN notices for all individuals listed on the return
  • A copy of last year’s federal tax return
  • All relevant tax documents (e.g., W-2, 1095, 1099, etc.)
  • Childcare provider information (if applicable)
  • Documentation for deductions and credits
  • A blank check or bank account details for direct deposit or refund

If filing jointly, both spouses must be present.
