Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office
PUNTA GORDA, FL – The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is offering a Citizen Handgun Safety Course on March 15, 2025, providing residents with essential firearm safety training.
Held at the CCSO Training Range at 25520 Airport Road, Punta Gorda, the course runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will be instructed by CCSO Firearms Instructors. Participants must be residents of Charlotte County and are required to pre-register.
The program will cover:
✔ NRA’s three rules for safe gun handling
✔ Firearm parts, loading, unloading, and maintenance
✔ Safe firearm storage in the home
✔ Florida laws on firearm ownership and self-defense
✔ Fundamentals of marksmanship, including stance, grip, breath control, sight alignment, and trigger control
✔ Live-fire practice on the training range
Participants should bring note-taking materials, their own firearm and ammunition, and wear closed-toe shoes with long pants. Hearing and eye protection will be provided if needed.
The class size is limited to 18 participants, and early registration is encouraged. Applications must be submitted to Jillian Reich at the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.
