
Sarasota County Opens Cold Weather Shelter as Temperatures Drop
Sarasota County Emergency Management officials, in collaboration with municipal and community partners, have organized cold weather sheltering for residents in need due to the forecasted drop in temperatures.
Cold Weather Shelter Details:
- Location: The 100 Church, 14525 Tamiami Trail, North Port
- Opening Time: 5 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21
- Important: Attendees should bring their own sleeping materials.
Transportation Options:
- Breeze Route 9: Operating on its regular schedule, with stops on Tamiami Trail at Espanola Avenue/Almonte Terrace, just a 0.1-mile walk from The 100 Church.
- Breeze OnDemand Services: Available in the North Port service area.

- Pets: Ensure pets are brought indoors during cold weather.
- Outdoor Activity: Those who need to be outside overnight or in the early morning hours should dress in several warm layers and minimize skin exposure to wind.

Charlotte County Emergency Management
Cold temperatures are expected across our area starting tonight, Jan. 21. The Charlotte CARE Center (formerly the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition), located at 1476 Kenesaw St., Port Charlotte, will provide shelter on Tuesday night (more nights may come available) for those in need. Pre-registration is required—call 941-627-4313 and arrive by 8 p.m.
A cold front will bring chilly temps and rainy conditions this evening into Wednesday. A Gale Warning is in effect for coastal waters through Wednesday. Wintry precipitation may reach as far south as the Nature Coast. The coldest temperatures are expected Friday night into Saturday morning.
