Emergency responders were swiftly dispatched shortly after 10 a.m. today following reports of a boat fire in the Intracoastal waterway behind the 200 block of Rio Terra.

Authorities from the Venice Police, Venice FL Fire Department, Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office’s Marine Unit, and Sea Tow Venice promptly responded to the scene involving a 20-25-foot cuddy cabin boat. The single male occupant, identified as the vessel’s owner, was safely evacuated by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and transferred to the Marina Park Boat Ramp near the Venice Train Depot. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

The blaze engulfed the boat entirely and was eventually extinguished by the efforts of the Venice Fire Rescue team. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this point in time.
