With the time change over the weekend, the North Port Fire Department is urging people to change batteries in their smoke detectors.
The warning also comes after a house fire on Thursday.
They say an alarm alerted the owner of a home on Oporto Street and woke them up after a lamp caught fire. The homeowner and their pet were able to escape without incident.
The house suffered heavy smoke damage, but is not thought to be a complete loss.
