The Charlotte County sheriff’s office is investigating after an inmate was found dead in the county jail on Wednesday.
Officials say the body of 54-year-old David Griggs was found in his cell with a piece of material around his neck.
The CCSO says Griggs was in a lockdown pod at the time, where inmates are in essentially isolation.
He had been in jail for less than a week on active arrests and drug possession charges.
