The City of Venice is looking to upgrade security and hurricane preparations at the city’s drinking water plant. Assistant Utilities Director John Monville told ABC-7 he wants to replace barbed wire, fencing, and security cameras after finding broken wire near some large pipes. The building will also be getting a new roof with strengthened wind resistance after being forced to shut down during Hurricane Irma. The entire project is expected to cost around $3.7M, but will not be done in time for the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season June 1.
