Statewide changes may be taking place after a mishap during a weather emergency. As Hurricane Irma was approaching Florida a sign language interpreter was signing incorrect information during a televised briefing in Manatee County. State legislators are now considering a bill to address how the state communicates with hearing impaired residents during weather emergencies. The bill would require officials to include a qualified sign language interpreter at all televised hurricane briefings.
