Shelters throughout southwest Florida are opening their doors and waiving fees because of the recent cold snap. Salvation Army locations in both Sarasota and Manatee Counties waived the $12 dollar nightly fee each of the last two nights. Both shelters will remain open today and tomorrow to provide a place for people to get out of the cold. In addition to the Salvation Army, Grace United Methodist Church, on E. Field Ave. in Venice, will open as a shelter at 4:30 p.m. today and tomorrow. New Hope Community Church on S. Biscayne in North Port will open at 815 tonight and 7pm tomorrow.
