Venice Mayor John Holic ripped Sarasota County officials on Monday after they initially criticized him for opening the Venice Community Center as a shelter against the advice from Sarasota County and Emergency Operations officials. The county only agreed to open the building on one condition- that the city take full responsibility for whatever arose, and as such, would not provide any food, water, or personnel. Holic, meanwhile, slammed the county for not opening a shelter for Venice residents. Both sides said they’ll work to find a better solution, especially since hurricane season is far from over.
