Students in Sarasota and Charlotte County Schools will be getting free lunch and breakfast now through Oct. 20. Through the National School Lunch Program, all meals will be free to all students locally as well as in the other Florida counties given a FEMA Major Disaster Declaration. A statement issued Monday said nearly 3,000 schools and 2.5 million students will be affected. School resumed Monday after being closed for 10 days in all, wich many serving as as hurricane shelters. During Irma, 11 schools in the district lost power, and the 14 that were used as shelters had to be cleaned and sanitized before students could return.
