Charlotte and Sarasota County Schools are taking different approaches this week as many parents prepare for the arrival of Hurricane Irma this weekend. In Charlotte County, school and all after school activities for today AND Friday have been canceled. Al activities will be canceled on Saturday, September 9th as well. School officials say “this decision was not made lightly but I feel that it is the best possible decision to ensure the safety of your children, their families, and our staff.”
As for Sarasota County, Superintendent Todd Bowden announced that all Sarasota County public schools will be open today, but closed on Friday. The closure will affect the regular school day as well as all extra-curricular events that day, including football games and other sports events as well as after-school care. As of now, the district is operating on the normal school and business schedule today, including after-school events.
