City officials of North Port have decided to deny a resident’s request to sell puppies out of his home. Joseph Neuman had been fighting the city since 2014, but city commissioners finally ruled against him. The city has argued that what Neuman is doing is illegal, because the home isn’t zoned for commercial use. He claims the city promised him a zoning exemption more than two years ago, but it’s been in court practically from day one. Neuman says he sells about 300 dogs per year, and makes around $450,000 from the business. While he can still appeal -again- he says he is considering leaving North Port altogether.
