Punta Gorda Police Chief Tom Lewis was found not guilty Thursday on a negligence charge in the death of 73-year-old Mary Knowlton stemming from an incident from August of last year. However, Lewis was notified in a letter that his employment is in doubt with the city of Punta Gorda. A six-member jury found him not guilty and Lewis did not make a public statement.
