Sixteen people were injured in a Thursday morning crash on I-75. The accident happened around 645am near mile marker 164. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a pickup truck carrying five passengers in the cab…and another TEN in the bed flipped over after being cut off by a semi truck. I-75 was shut down for nearly 3 hours as police and EMS crews tended to the scene. Eight people were taken to hospitals in Charlotte County, and eight others were taken to Lee Memorial Hospital. Seven of the occupants sustained serious injuries. Nine others had minor injuries.
Nothing was technically illegal about the group in the back of the truck- Florida law states riding in the bed of a truck is only illegal for minors.
