Hundreds gathered over the weekend for the 2017 Hurricane Expo in Venice. Local businesses and governments hosted the weekend event in advance of hurricane season, which officially begins June 1st. Speakers from the insurance industry, emergency management agencies, and health industry all talked about the various ‘what to do’ aspects of when a hurricane hits. One common theme that kept coming up was hurricane fatigue. It’s been 11 years since a hurricane made a direct landfall, meaning millions of newer residents have never experienced the worst that a hurricane can bring.
