Spire Motorsports Suspends Carson Hocevar for Homestead-Miami Season Finale

Spire Motorsports suspended driver Carson Hocevar for the Nov. 8 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, a team-imposed penalty rather than a NASCAR sanction. The decision followed the Nov. 1 race at Martinsville, where Hocevar was accused of intentionally spinning himself to bring out a caution and had an on-track run-in with Austin Cindric. Spire said it chose to act on its own rather than leave the matter to NASCAR, and the team’s statement was direct: “We believe in respect. Our integrity matters. This is the right decision.” Hocevar accepted the call, saying he “crossed the line” with his on-track actions.

NASCAR veteran and former Spire driver Justin Haley will take over the No. 77 car at Homestead. Hocevar, 23, won his first Cup race at Talladega on April 26 and made his first postseason appearance, entering the finale 12th in points with one win, six top-fives and 12 top-10s in 35 races. For Suncoast race fans, the finale is a short drive down the coast, and the story now has a new layer: a team policing its own star.

The debate is already heating up in the garage and around the water cooler. Was Spire right to handle this internally, or should NASCAR have made the call? And does an aggressive driving style that made Hocevar one of the sport’s most popular young names deserve a second look? What’s your take: did Spire make the right call?
