Bradenton’s police officers and firefighters are trading call logs for box scores Thursday night. Boots vs. Badges returns to LECOM Park, with gates opening at 6 p.m. and first pitch at 6:30. Tickets are $10, and proceeds go to local charities through the Braid and Blue Foundation.
The matchup revives a rivalry from years past. The Sheriff’s Office had been the recent opponent, but when it couldn’t play this year, Police Chief Josh Kramer and Fire Chief Tim Gere decided it was time for police and fire to face off again. The two chiefs talked about the game this week, and yes, there’s a donuts bet on the line. Gere said the money raised can provide immediate help: gift cards and food for people displaced by house fires, plus assistance for officers or firefighters in need.
Kramer likes his department’s chances. Gere expects a close one. Either way, it’s an affordable family night at a real ballpark, and a chance to see the crews who serve Suncoast communities in a far more relaxed setting. Will you be at LECOM Park on Thursday, and who are you rooting for?
