It’s Election Day, and control of Congress is on the line. While Suncoast voters weigh in on local races and amendments, political watchers are focused on three Senate contests that could shift the balance of power: Texas, Michigan, and Ohio.
In Texas, Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton faces Democratic state Rep. James Talarico, with Paxton’s impeachment and acquittal shadowing his campaign. A Talarico win would make him the first Democratic U.S. senator from Texas in more than 30 years. In Michigan, Democrat Abdul El-Sayed faces Republican Rep. Mike Rogers for an open seat, and the race shifted Sunday when Rep. Haley Stevens withdrew her support for El-Sayed and endorsed Rogers. Ohio’s contest features appointed Republican Sen. Jon Husted against former Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, who’s seeking a comeback after losing his 2024 bid.
The results will shape federal policy for the next two years, and polls close tonight. Which race are you watching closest? Let us know on our social pages, and keep it here for results as they come in.
