Fairfield police were called around 8:30 p.m. Friday to a shooting at the Spirit Halloween store inside Solano Town Center in Fairfield, California. Seven people were shot, one victim died at the scene, and three others were hospitalized in critical condition. Police Chief Dan Marshall says no suspect description has been released, and investigators are working through the mall’s surveillance camera footage.
The timing is what makes this one hard to shake. A seasonal costume shop, in a busy mall, two days before Halloween. Stores like that are where families go for a cheap thrill, not where they plan for the worst.
Closer to home, this is the season when Suncoast shopping centers, outlet malls, and pop-up shops start filling up with holiday traffic. Local law enforcement has long encouraged shoppers to stay aware, park in well-lit areas, and report anything unusual. That advice sounds routine until a story like Fairfield reminds us why it exists.
What’s your go-to safety habit when you’re out shopping in a crowd?
