Flock Safety Cameras Draw Scrutiny Over Privacy and Police Tracking Claims

License plate cameras are becoming a familiar sight across Suncoast roads and beach neighborhoods, and a new InvestigateTV+ report is raising questions about what they actually capture. Flock Safety says its cameras don’t track people, but company training videos show police using the system to follow suspects from one location to another. Security researcher Benn Jordan also claims he found dozens of Flock cameras streaming openly online and says the cameras use AI to zoom in and follow people, whether or not they’re a person of interest.

For drivers between Sarasota, Bradenton, and the beaches, the story touches a live debate: public safety versus personal privacy. The same InvestigateTV+ episode also profiles Marine Corps veteran James Poggi, who received a service dog after five back surgeries and a below-the-knee amputation, and examines why undiagnosed diabetes hits the South especially hard.

There’s a lighter note too, with Southern Tradition, a barbershop quartet formed in 1999 by four men with four different careers. Have you spotted a Flock camera on your regular route, and how do you feel about it? Let us know in the comments or call in.
